At the beginning of the Directed Fieldwork, my superivsor and I came up with four goals: things I would learn while at the Archives. The table below lists each objective, the project that would fulfill the objective, the evidence I would produce by completing each project and a link to information about the project on this website, if applicable.

1 Learn and apply the methods of arrangement and description used in the Seattle Municipal Archives for most record types. Process small collections of archival records employing methodologies used in the Archives for arrangement, description, preservation, cataloging, and indexing. Assist with processing maps and drawings and audio-visual materials. Successful completion of finding aids and catalog records appropriate for the collections. Seattle Water Department Central Files

Learn and implement materials accession processes as applied in the Seattle Municipal Archives.
Work with senior staff in managing the acquisition and accession processes for records received by the Archives during Winter quarter. Includes establishing physical and intellectual control of records and completing administrative processes documenting acquisition.

3 Learn and apply digitization standards and processes for photographs and textual records used by the Seattle Municipal Archives. Scanning photographic negatives to be included in the Archives online photograph index. Digitize textual records for inclusion in exhibits or digital document library. Photo staff will conduct quality control of photograph negative scans. Scanned textual records will be mounted on Archives website. No Link
4 Learn and apply descriptive practices in creation of EAD finding aids in accordance with Seattle Municipal Archives and Northwest Digital Archives standards and best practices. Create and/or update EAD finding aid(s) for collections processed. Senior archivist will review the finding aid(s) and decide when finding aid(s) will be uploaded to the Northwest Digital Archives site. Initiatives Collection
