Due to some interesting activity I noticed with my newly set up logging capabilities (so I can track who’s coming to the site), I have installed a couple plug-ins to the blog to keep it more immune to illegitimate bots. It’s rather eerie to see one of your posts show up in a blog that is entirely composed of a somewhat random collection of other people’s posts and realize that none of them realize their content is being “stolen.” Either way, I’ve blocked that IP, and the first plugin I installed supposedly bounces spambots back to their own servers and the other adds some copyright text to my feeds.
Let me know if you notice any strangeness (I mean, beyond the fact that everything I post here is odd to begin with).
Speaking of plug-ins, about 5 weeks ago I installed the Akismet anti-spam plugin, and I am pleased to say that in that time it has blocked 400 spam comments, with not a single false positive (which in this case would be a true negative? er… I dunno).
EDIT: It appears the copyright plugin might be a little overkill (though only RSS readers will notice), but I think I may have fixed that now.

Ok, so this post is a little delayed as the new computer has been up and operational as of late last week. So far, I have yet to notice any lag in any of the games I play. And it sure is nice, among other things, to load a Civ 4 save game on a huge map and normally, that’s a chance to get up and get something to drink or something… but NOT if it only takes 2-3 seconds.
Here are the specs:
ASUS P5N-E SLI NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
BFG Tech GeForce 7900GS 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16
Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM
I justify this to myself somewhat in that I will be using it for “big, important programming” (like my March Madness stuff). But really, the justification comes in that I hope to not need to upgrade much of anything for at least 2-3 years (the last major upgrade I had previously done to my computer was 4 1/2 years ago!).

[insert Zelda music for when you find things: duh duh duh duuuuuhh]
I finally got around to creating this blog, in part because of Adrienne’s interest in having such a thing. I had wanted a means to share things I found on the internets, and so I built a link database that was kind of ok, but that’s it. So, here it is. I am pleased with how it’s turned out so far (as far as functionality/layout/etc. goes) but it’s definitely a work-in-progress, and I expect to tweak it regularly as I think of things (or as I receive comments from you).
At some point (hopefully in the near future) I will work on retro-fitting my old website with the new look. Unfortunately the new look uses WordPress which is based on PHP/MySQL while the old website uses ASP.NET/MS SQL Server. Even more unfortunately, I have good reason to want to keep both around. We’ll have to see how that works out.
Other projects I’m working on* include:
-Civ 4 Mod: replace Religions with Sports
-Update/reintegrate March Madness database system
-Sibling Monies database
* “working on” loosely means they have been started and there is a specific goal in mind, regardless of how attainable it may be.
