Due to some interesting activity I noticed with my newly set up logging capabilities (so I can track who’s coming to the site), I have installed a couple plug-ins to the blog to keep it more immune to illegitimate bots. It’s rather eerie to see one of your posts show up in a blog that is entirely composed of a somewhat random collection of other people’s posts and realize that none of them realize their content is being “stolen.” Either way, I’ve blocked that IP, and the first plugin I installed supposedly bounces spambots back to their own servers and the other adds some copyright text to my feeds.
Let me know if you notice any strangeness (I mean, beyond the fact that everything I post here is odd to begin with).
Speaking of plug-ins, about 5 weeks ago I installed the Akismet anti-spam plugin, and I am pleased to say that in that time it has blocked 400 spam comments, with not a single false positive (which in this case would be a true negative? er… I dunno).
EDIT: It appears the copyright plugin might be a little overkill (though only RSS readers will notice), but I think I may have fixed that now.

Once again, I present a list of things I’ve been thinking about recently, with no transitions in between. Read more…

Ok, so this post is a little delayed as the new computer has been up and operational as of late last week. So far, I have yet to notice any lag in any of the games I play. And it sure is nice, among other things, to load a Civ 4 save game on a huge map and normally, that’s a chance to get up and get something to drink or something… but NOT if it only takes 2-3 seconds.
Here are the specs:
ASUS P5N-E SLI NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
BFG Tech GeForce 7900GS 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16
Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM
I justify this to myself somewhat in that I will be using it for “big, important programming” (like my March Madness stuff). But really, the justification comes in that I hope to not need to upgrade much of anything for at least 2-3 years (the last major upgrade I had previously done to my computer was 4 1/2 years ago!).

Yes, a big shout-out to my Dad who won the annual Bowl Picking Challenge for 2006. Good job, Dad! Here’s hoping you do as well in the March Madness (except against me, of course…)

I just discovered that Professor Peter Schickele is coming to Eugene, OR on June 30 as part of The Jekyll & Hyde Tour.
Also, the Seattle Philharmonic is performing several selections from P.D.Q. Bach on Sunday, May 6, including:
Schleptet in E-flat Major [Sound clip]
Eine Kleine Nichtmusik [Sound clip]
Royal Firewater Musik [Sound clip]
Cantata, “Iphegnia in Brooklyn”
Quodlibet
I’m highly tempted to go (to the one in Seattle). I mean, seriously, he’s like the Weird Al of classical music. What’s not to like?
Is anybody else interested?
