I took a bunch of pictures this weekend during our Vancouver trip. And so far I have been delinquent in my self-assigned duties to do something with these pictures beyond merely downloading them off the camera. However, until I get around to that, I present this picture of a ninja squirrel to appease all of you who are curious.
This picture was taken at Queen Elizabeth Park, which was one of the filming locations for the Stargate episode The Gamekeeper.

I feel obligated to add that this is not an actual ninja squirrel. If this had been a ninja squirrel, you would not be able to see it with the naked eye, much less be able to snap a picture of it.

I am terrifically excited for our trip to Vancouver, British Columbia this weekend. See, we’re going to go and find a bunch of the places where they shot my favorite TV show, Stargate SG-1, and take pictures and bask in our own nerdiness. Probably lots of quotes will be said like, “Ooh, here’s where they shot that one alien!” and “That’s the house they drive up to in the teaser for episode 38!” Fandom at its finest, ladies and gentlemen. There will also be a movie, an independent film made by and starring some of the actors from the SG-1 spinoff, Stargate Atlantis. I am excited about this too. While the forecast calls for rain, I don’t think our spirits will be dampened, at least, they won’t if we can find some of the places. There is also a Stargate Convention in Vancouver going on at the same time, but we didn’t plan enough in advance for that. So I guess we’re not as nerdy as we could be. Maybe next year.
A full report and pictures will follow….probably.

I am perhaps in the best shape of my life. Ok, scratch that. I’m in better shape than I’ve been in for about 5 years. I’ve got quite a ways to go before I catch up to where I was my senior year of high school, the year I almost made the highly competitive and championship-winning Varsity Volleyball team.
The last couple of years I’ve been playing volleyball once or twice a week with some of my colleagues. In recent weeks and months, participation has been waning, so I’ve put it upon myself to exercise anyway on the days it doesn’t happen. A couple months ago, it was tough work to run 2 laps (1/2 mile) continuously, much less a full mile. But ever since volleyball became more of a “once every two or three weeks” sort of thing (and next quarter it’s not happening at all), my [slightly] more rigorous exercise has increased. Volleyball is definitely fun but it doesn’t give you quite the same workout.
To help challenge myself, I bought a stopwatch (a regular watch would have sufficed, but I haven’t worn a watch in over a year), and have been able to track my times. I finally got myself to run a full mile last Wednesday, and have run it twice more since:
Wed 3/14 – 8:04 (w/ splits of 1:55, 2:06, 2:12, 1:51)
Tue 3/20 – 7:59 (w/ splits of 1:59, 2:03, 2:06, 1:51)
Thu 3/22 – 7:37 (w/ splits of 1:49, 1:59, 2:03, 1:46)
I certainly don’t expect that trend to continue. I would, in fact, be quite happy to consistently run a 7:45 a few more weeks and improve slowly from there. And it’s still quite a ways off from my lifetime best of 6:36 (I still don’t know how I did that), but I don’t think it’s too unrealistic of a goal to reach for. Not anytime soon or anything. But sometime. Those 40 pounds I’ve gained since then sure aren’t helping either.

So, Wisconsin has been eliminated. It was a sad occasion indeed. Unfortunately, I missed the first half due to being at church. Maybe if I could have watched, they would have won… or not. What really gets me about this, besides the fact that it’s Wisconsin, and as a 2-seed they “should” have won 2 more games, is that if not for my heavy bias towards Wisconsin, I would have picked them to lose this game. Of all the games they could have played, I would have picked them to beat Oregon (in fact, I did), and I would have likely picked them to beat Florida, but I honestly would have picked them to lose to UNLV. UNLV was a hot team, and were very underrated; Wisconsin, meanwhile was not the same team they were most of the season, having lost 3 of their last 6 games and still missing Brian Butch.
Oh well. I’m just glad I had good friends and board games to distract me most of the weekend.
And, of course, it’s still not over. I “only” need about 10 of the remaining 15 games to go my way in order to win the family pool and the CIS pool:

Dang it, Gonzaga! I’m not picking you next year. I will resist your siren song. It doesn’t matter that you’re from “around here,” you’ve screwed up my bracket too many times. It’s over between us. And it’s not me – it’s you.
If you read the abbreviation for Wright State really fast, it looks like “worst” because it says WRST on TV. You’d think they’d change it to WTST or something.
I’m really sick of those Chevy commercials with that stupid song. I will never buy a Chevrolet ever. This is definitely *their* country.
Hokay, that’s about all I have for today. We’ll see how bad my bracket gets busted tomorrow.
