Get Out Yer Brooms!

Because the Mariners swept the A’s. Whoo!

Yes, yes, it was only a two-game mini-series, but considering how terrible the M’s were against Oakland last year, I feel compelled to point out that we’ve only lost once in five meetings with the Oakland Nine this season. Maybe our record in the AL West won’t be so bad this year. That would be pretty cool.

However, it is also worthwhile to consider that Oakland is playing quite poorly right now, and the Mariners didn’t do so hot against the Angels, so while we can (and should) celebrate this recent three game win streak, we’re still looking at probably a mediocre 2007 season right now, what with Felix out, our disappointing offense and all that. Also, Hargrove and Bavasi should both be shown the door, and sooner, rather than later.

But enough with being realistic. M’s Sweep Oakland! Yeee-haw! Let’s go Mariners!!!

Behold the idiot cap!

Get Fuzzy - 4-15-07

Sometimes I forget how much I enjoy Get Fuzzy.

Update: Stoneheart

Posted by Adrienne on April 18, 2007 under Books | No Comments

I finished reading Stoneheart yesterday (take a look at my last book review post, if you don’t know what I’m talking about) and it’s totally worth your time. George (the main character) got better as the book went on, and I really, really enjoyed all the “been there!” feelings.* On the downside, it has kind of a cliff-hanger ending, because the author is going to write a few more and make it a series (so maybe that’s actually good…).

*The “Been There” feeling is a well-documented phenomenon** that can work in one of two ways. 1) A person can visit a new place, see many things and have a good time, then read a book or see a television show or movie set in that new place, and have a moment when he or she realizes that “I’ve been there,” and has a little smile. 2) A person can have read many books or seen many televsion shows or movies about a particular place, and then have many “Wow, I’m there!” moments while visiting that same place. These tend to incur larger smiles.

**I wrote about having a “Been There” feeling in one of my e-mails to friends during my visit to Great Britain in the Spring of 2004.

A Pretty Cat, and a Good Cat

We went to the animal shelter one day when I was in fifth grade. It was me, my little sister and my mom. When we came back, we had a small kitty with a black back and a white tummy. On the way home, she made a lot of noise, and my sister and I kept meowing back at her until Mom told us to stop. We called her Bandon, and she quickly became an important part of our family.

Bandon died last night.

What have I been reading lately? (March/April edition)

Posted by Adrienne on April 17, 2007 under Books | 1 Comment

Because of Spring Break, I had some time to read for fun during March, and it just kind of carried over into April. So, as a public service, I present a few mini book reviews of the literature that I engaged during these last few weeks. Keep reading for more!
