‘09 Book Count = 8

Well, the book count slowed down considerably during my last weeks of grad school, but I suppose that’s to be expected. However, I’ve gotten back in the game and completed my 8th nonfiction book for the 2009 book count. Here’s my Goodreads review:

The Glory of Their Times : The Story of Baseball Told By the Men Who Played It The Glory of Their Times : The Story of Baseball Told By the Men Who Played It by Lawrence S. Ritter

This last weekend, we went backpacking for the first time this summer. Our destination was the Thunder Creek trail in North Cascades National Park. We’d never been to this area before, so it was a new experience for us. For the official trail guide at the North Cascades National Park website, click here.

Photo of the Week: Philadelphia City Hall

Posted by Josh on June 25, 2009 under Photos | No Comments

It’s been 3 months since I returned from Philly, and I’m finally posting pictures.  I took quite a few pictures of City Hall.  I walked past it every day I was there as I went from the hotel to the convention center, and I found it very interesting.  It has an outer square building, with a courtyard in the middle along with the tower featuring William Penn at the top.

From Philadelphia

In the foreground, are various game pieces from Monopoly, Bingo, Checkers, Chess, and even a couple 10-foot dominoes–the dominoes aren’t actually in this picture. They are all part of a public art piece entitled “Your Turn” that sits out in the courtyard of the Municipal Services Building. My boss and I spent a good 10+ minutes wandering around in this particular area with our cameras on the last day we were there.

Book Review: The Summer Tree

It was a fiction book, so it doesn’t count for the Book Count. But I liked it so much, I thought I’d link to my Goodreads review of  The Summer Tree by Guy Gavriel Kay

The Summer Tree (The Fionavar Tapestry, Book 1)

Photo of the Week: The Golden Gate

Clear days in San Francisco are to be celebrated, and we were lucky to get one on our last visit to the City by the Bay.

From San Francisco, California

This picture of the Golden Gate Bridge was taken from Alcatraz, right in the middle of San Francisco Bay. Pretty amazing, isn’t it? I’m ready to visit again!
